Abstract
Providing timely, personalized feedback is a key challenge in large-scale programming courses. In this talk, we present ProHelp, an automated assessment platform for Prolog built on top of GitSEED, and report on its use in a large undergraduate logic programming course. We analyze student perceptions of seven kinds of automated feedback and find that students considered the system useful overall, with automatic testing emerging as the most valued feature. We also show that students’ interest in Prolog, use of optional exercises, and use of large language models did not meaningfully change how helpful they found ProHelp. Finally, we discuss student preferences for future feedback features, including a clear demand for showing differences between generated and expected test outputs.
